Our inspiration comes from Portland’s professional baseball team from the 1970’s, The Portland Mavericks. As Major League Baseball’s only independent baseball team, the name, “The Independent,” pays homage to the Mavericks and what they stood for. The rogue, anti-establishment spirit is a defining characteristic of Portlander’s still today.
